Our client, a nonprofit organization located in San Francisco, CA, is looking for its first Director of Finance to be responsible to plan, manage and control the financial activities of the organization. The position reports to the CEO. On-going tasks will include managing the processes of general accounting, budget and financial forecasting, supervision of annual audit and tax return and various reporting requirements. The right candidate will be expected to exhibit the highest professional standards, ethical principles, and attention to detail while working on numerous routine and ad hoc accounting support functions. Other valued attributes that we are seeking are a strong work ethic, capacity to get things done independently, and consistent performance with a sense of urgency and commitment.
Hybrid work situation allowed.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for overseeing the Accounting Team of 2 and thereby assume responsibility for all month-end close procedures, including preparation of monthly journal entries, account reconciliation and analysis of results.
- Work with all accounting staffs to ensure they understand and are provided with all tools necessary to complete their job functions efficiently.
- Manage the banking relationships including the investment account and credit cards.
- Proactively identify issues and implement process improvements to streamline accounting processes,
- Help establish and maintain policies and procedures and internal controls.
- Assist Program Coordinators and fiscally sponsored Project Directors.
- Oversee all grant accounting and reporting.
- Perform other special projects and analyses as directed by the Executive Director and Senior Leadership.
Requirements:
- Experience with large nonprofit organizations.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance 8+ years progressive accounting experience including Controller level responsibilities.
- CPA or MBA preferred but not required.
- In-depth knowledge of US generally accepted accounting principles.
- Advanced excel skill
- QuickBooks experience preferred
