Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • 14 years of full-time paid professional experience managing facilities design or planning and coordinating capital projects, including overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling activities.
  • 4 years of this experience must be specifically with the design, planning, and construction of educational facilities or similar public agencies.
  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in Architecture or Engineering.
  • A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California State Architectural Board or Professional Engineer by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple projects with a focus on seismic, critical repair, and retrofit projects.
  • Supervise a team of design professionals and other personnel through the design review process.
  • Develop and coordinate the District’s design process for A&E services to ensure compliance with functional program, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements.
  • Interact with architects, consultants, and District personnel to ensure timely completion of projects, including engineering repairs and critical repairs.
  • Oversee building design processes to ensure compliance with LAUSD’s standards and guidelines, ensuring structures meet educational and building standards requirements.
  • Identify and select architectural firms for each project based on qualifications and performance standards.
  • Provide clear direction to architects regarding project goals, objectives, standards, schedules, and budgets.
  • Implement an efficient design review process to ensure project goals and objectives are met.
  • Ensure projects deliver maximum value for budgeted funds and meet the functional needs of the District and local community.
  • Review design changes to ensure projects remain within budget.
  • Monitor project planning and design status, providing findings, recommendations, and updates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
